Hi,
I downloaded DataDirect 4.0 ODBC drivers because i want to test them before we buy them.
Unfrotunatelly I'm having throubles connecting to the Progress Database residing on a server running SCO UNIX OpenServer 5!!!
I'm trying to create a data source and test it but I get
the following error message when i hit the button "Test connect":
[MERANT][ODBC PROGRESS driver]"msgOpen unable to open message file : PROMSGS"

My ODBC client's OS is Windows 98.
I have added in my autoexec.bat lines for setting env. variables:

SET DLC="C:\Program Files\PROGRESS"
SET IDLC="C:\Program Files\PROGRESS"
SET PROMSGS="C:\Program Files\PROGRESS\promsgs"
SET IPROMSGS="C:\Program Files\PROGRESS\promsgs"
SET PATH=%DLC%\bin;%DLC%;"C:\Progra~1\Merant\ODBC40\Drivers";"C:\Program Files\Merant\ODBC40\Drivers";%PATH%
SET TEMP=c:\temp

I tried also the following without any luck:
SET DLC="C:\Progra~1\PROGRESS"
SET IDLC="C:\Progra~1\PROGRESS"
SET PROMSGS="C:\Progra~1\PROGRESS\promsgs"
SET IPROMSGS="C:\Progra~1\PROGRESS\promsgs"

I even moved the file promsgs to the main folder c:\
and set env. vars accordingly but this
didn't help either.
SET PROMSGS="C:\promsgs"
SET IPROMSGS="C:\promsgs"

What could be the reason for this error?
Why the driver can not find PROMSGS?
It is there! I double checked it!!!!

Is it case sensitive search?
But this is Windows 98 and I think it shouldn't be case sensitive...

Any ideas?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

FiFi

Have you tried removing the double quotes ?

SET PROMSGS=C:\Program Files\PROGRESS\promsgs
SET IPROMSGS=C:\Program Files\PROGRESS\promsgs

Also double check that after you rebooted the system, the environment variables are actually set (by typing the following command in your command window: set) and you can see the contents of the file when typing the followong command in your command window:

echo %PROMSGS%
echo %IPROMSGS%

If that does not help (and you rebooted the system), download filemon from www.sysinternals.com to see where the driver attempts to load the promsgs file from on win98.

Thank you for the help FiFi!

Removing the quotes from the
SET PROMSGS="C:\Program Files\PROGRESS\promsgs"
solved the problem!
